Authorities fighting immigrant 'stash house' trend

Local and federal authorities say they are battling what they are calling an immigrant 'stash house' trend.

The Laredo Police Department and the U.S. Border Patrol captured five illegal aliens from a stash house in Laredo Monday.

Officers executed a "knock and talk" at a residence located on Poza Rica Street suspected of being involved in narcotics smuggling. The officers contacted Border Patrol after finding men and women from Mexico and Honduras. Border Patrol Agents arrested one U.S. Citizen and five illegal immigrants. They said the immigrants were in good health.

“The cooperation between the Laredo Sector Border Patrol and Laredo Police Department continues to show the benefits of law enforcement agencies, both local and federal, working together to ensure a safer community. We will continue to do so to disrupt and degrade criminal organizations that constantly put people’s lives in danger and to protect this nation,” said Laredo Sector Acting Deputy Chief Patrol Agent Anthony S. Good.

The alien smuggling case was deferred to Laredo Sector Prosecutions.

Also on Monday, Border Patrol agents received tips the house was used in the operation. Eleven men and women from Mexico were found in the home and taken into custody.

“This rescue illustrates how well the Border Patrol works with our local law enforcement partners as well as our ability to disrupt and degrade criminal organizations that constantly put people’s lives in danger. We will continue to work diligently to protect America and prevent people from being subjected to dangerous, deplorable situations,” said Acting Deputy Chief Patrol Agent Anthony S. Good.
