FAIRBORN, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – A man more than 500 days into recovery from using heroin thanked first responders who gave him a second chance at life Wednesday.

Fairborn graduate and former Ohio State student Richard Matteoli credited local paramedics with saving his life on four different occasions.

When he was younger, he excelled in football and math, and never expected his life to take a very different turn.

“This is what I looked like when I was out there at the end,” Matteoli said. “I was down to about 121 pounds. And I’m 6-foot-2. Now, I’m about 240.”

He also told the paramedics how thankful he was for the work they do on a daily basis.
