Trevor Rabin, ARW bandmates make tour stop in San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO - It's been 25 years since they've shared a stage together as members of Yes, but singer Jon Anderson, guitarist and singer Trevor Rabin and keyboard wizard Rick Wakeman have reformed as Anderson, Rabin & Wakeman (ARW) for a fall tour and the possibility of new music in the not-so-distant future.
Wakeman has even given a moniker to the trio - "the Holy Trinity of Yes," and wish to restore the standard of excellence on stage that they established with their 1990 shows.
"Trevor and I have wanted to play Yes music together since the Union Tour," said Wakeman in a press release. "And as for so many of us, there is no Yes music without Jon. The 'Holy Trinity of Yes' is for me, very much a dream come true."
The trio will perform shows across North America in October and November, while songwriting continues on an untitled ARW studio project.

Rumors of a collaboration between the three have been circulating social media for a few years, but a post just after the new year on Rabin's Twitter account confirmed the reunion.

"About the most I can say for now is that we have decided to tour. thanks for all the good vibes."
Rabin said this reunion of sorts has been a long time coming, as each other's lives finally came together at the right time for this gathering.
"This collaboration wasn't contrived," he said. "Rick and I met on the Union Tour (in 1991), and he said the only thing he liked about that tour was the chance to work with me. I was really excited of the prospect to ever work with Rick. He is just an amazing musician and I thought the synergy we have together opened up an immense possibility for new music.
"Jon and I worked together during the '80s and through the 'Talk' album back in 1994. The idea of us working together again has been percolating for the last four years. We just knew that the stars had to aligned for it to be the right."
But Rabin said that the death of co-founder Chris Squire in June 2015 was the final piece needed to make this reunion a reality.
"Chris and I were friends throughout the years. Every couple of years, he would always ask me if I wanted to come back to the band," he said. "I was in touch with Chris every day until his death.
"Chris' passing made me think that life is short and that if the three of us were ever going to work together, now was the time. We all agreed that we've got to do this."
Bits and pieces of song ideas have been passed back and forth between the trio through file sharing, as the possibility of new music has begun to take shape, but Rabin said that those songs have been put on the back burner, as the putting on the best show possible for the American fans is top priority.
"I don't want to rush these songs," he said. "We've had offers from different record companies, but we've said no. We want control over the vision for our songs. Once you start listening to record company executives, then you lose sight of what you wanted to do in the first place."
FROM THE STAGE TO THE SILVER SCREEN
After leaving Yes in 1994, Rabin became a highly in-demand film composer, penning scores for blockbusters that include Con Air, Remember the Titans, Armageddon, National Treasure and Glory Road.
His introduction to the world of film composing began with a chance meeting with action star Steven Seagal.
"Steven asked if I could teach him things on the guitar," he said. "After the lesson, he said 'Thank you, if there is anything I can do for you.'"
That opened the door for Rabin, who had a secret wish that he wanted to fulfill.
"I said to him 'I really would like to get into film scoring.' He told me that he was working on a film now and I got the job to score 'The Glimmer Man.'"
Since 1996, Rabin has scored over 40 films and won countless awards, including 11 BMI Awards.
THE REBIRTH OF YES
Rabin's tenure with Yes has some auspicious beginnings.
After turning down an offer to join an early version of the supergroup Asia, Rabin set about to record demos for a new solo album. With demos in hand, he began sending them out to industry heavyweights to gauge their interest in the new music, not knowing that it would lead him to a new formation of the classic prog-rock band.
"I had no intention for these demos to be a part of a Yes project," he said. "I had written all this material and was shopping the demos. I remember getting a rejection letter from Clive Davis at Arista Records. He told me that the songs were too strange and not hit quality. And that happened to be "Owner of a Lonely Heart."
The demos found their way to former Yes bass player Chris Squire, who was forming a new band with former Yes drummer Alan White called Cinema.
"I met Chris and we played together and it felt really good," he said. "I had no idea what kind of journey was about to follow."
Near the end of the recording session for what would become "90125," Anderson was asked to lend his distinctive vocals and the band's name was changed to Yes.
"When we finished 90125, we were so excited. Chris Squire was really holding the flag, saying: 'This is the new sound. This is what we're about now,'" Rabin said in an interview with Something Else!. "I was really proud and happy, however we got there, with both 90125, and 'Owner of a Lonely Heart.' We all were."
The album became a rebirth for Yes, which had all but called it quits back in 1980.
OWNER OF A LONELY HEART
The album's signature song, "Owner of a Lonely Heart" reached No. 1 in January 1983 and catapulted the "90125" to triple platinum status, making it the biggest selling album in the history of Yes.
Rabin remembers fondly about the evolution of "Owner of a Lonely Heart" went through, but was able to still maintain the essence from his demo.
"That song went through a lot of changes before the finished product on the album," he said. "Jon rewrote some of the lyrics in the verses and I did some work on the music. And there were so many 'happy accidents' on the demos that (producer) Trevor Horn told me we should keep them in the song. I loved the way this song evolved. Jon's contribution was literally amazing.
"I thought that the music we had made was a huge departure from what the band was known for (back in the '70s.) and I didn't know how the fan base was going to react," he said. "I realized that we not only brought a lot of those fans on board, but also tapped into a new fan base that enjoyed the songs."
'90125' spawned four singles, including "Leave It," "It Can Happen" and "Cinema," which earned the band it's only Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
TO THE STAGE
Now that the tour is shaping up, Rabin and his bandmates, along with legendary concert producer Larry Magid, are about to begin rehearsals. Rabin says he can't wait to get on stage and play the music that has touched generations around the world.
"We're very excited to get out and play live," he said. "Our fans are very special to us and we have set the bar high for what they'll experience in concert. This is journey that has been a longtime coming for all of us. We're not going to waste or take any moment for granted."
ARW kicks off it's 2016 tour on Oct. 4 in Orlando and ending Nov. 25 in San Francisco.
