Suspect drives home after crashing into bicyclist, arrested when he returns to scene

HOUSTON - A man was taken into custody after allegedly running over a bicyclist and then returning to the accident scene some time later. 

The accident happened around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday on Reed Road near Sharondale drive in Southeast Houston. 

Police said a man in his 50s was riding his bike when the suspect came along and hit him from behind. The victim was thrown across the vehicle, but the driver didn't stop. 

Police said the suspect drove home and told his family that he may have hit something. They told him to go back, which he did. 

The suspect was greeted by police, who took him into custody after witnesses to the crash identify him as the driver.  The windshield of the suspect's car was visibly cracked. 

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. 

No word if alcohol was a factor.
