NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas- A man has been charged for causing an accident in New Braunfels involving three different cars.

Police say they were called Oct. 28 at around 6:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Rosa Parks Drive after an officer saw a white Dodge Ram, reported stolen out of New Braunfels earlier in the day.

Police tried to stop the truck, but the driver instead sped onto FM 725 toward Klein Road.

As the truck approached the intersection of FM 725 and Union Wine Road, it crashed into the back of a red Ford Escape, which was stopped at the intersection.

The Escape was pushed into oncoming lanes of traffic, where a blue Dodge Ram slammed into it.

The driver of the Escape, a 54-year-old McQueeney woman, and the driver of the blue Ram, a 29-year-old New Braunfels man, escaped with no injuries.

The suspect then jumped out of his truck and tried to run away. Officers caught up with him, though.

Police later found out the driver was 18-year-old Jesus Romero from New Braunfels. He was not injured in the crash.

Romero was taken to the Comal County Jail and charged with Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, Evading in a Vehicle, Hit & Run (Accident Involving Damage over $250) and Possession of Marijuana.

Several parts of FM 725 were closed, in addition to Union Wine Road by the NBPD Traffic Unit, so a full accident reconstruction could be conducted.
