Heavy dust heading for San Antonio forecast to hit this weekend

The area is expected to see fairly intense dust from the Saharan Desert come Sunday and Monday.

It would be a change from the clear skies seen Friday because of the African dust or Saharan dust, which can cause breathing problems for sensitive groups.

The sand from the Saharan Desert – millions of tons of it – travels thousands of miles each year. Most of it lands in the Amazon, but the San Antonio area gets some as well.

A thin layer of dust could coat cars. For people suffering from allergies or asthma, it may be best to stay indoors.

Meteorologists expect Sunday to see some dust. Monday could be even more intense, possibly the peak for the season.
