Explosion levels Terrell Hills home
TERRELL HILLS, Texas --An explosion rocks the small neighborhood of Terrell Hills this morning.
The fire levelled a home and sent one woman to the hospital with severe burns.
Huge bright flames lit up the nighttime sky at the home on Lyman street off of Rittiman Road and Harry Wurzbach on the citys northeast side about 5:30 this morning.
Firefighters believe a gas leak sparked the fire.
The fire moving so fast, the home was fully engulfed by the time firefighters got there.
The explosion caused by the gas leak rattled neighbors and their homes.
She was in the kitchen, lighting her stove and when she turned she heard the explosion and the explosion knocked her to the floor, said Terrell Hills Fire Chief Billy Knupp. The female resident did have 18 percent of burns on her body, she was transported to SAMC, she was alert and oriented at the time of transport.
Firefighters say the impact was so strong that the woman was blown across the room and her garage door landed across the street.
It took fire crews from Terrell Hills, Olmos Park, Ft. Sam Houston and Alamo Heights to tackle the blaze.
The home was completely destroyed and neighbors say the husband and wife living there had just completed a house make-over.
Firefighters want to urge the public to check your gas appliances at least twice a year.
