Police departments teaming up for 'Operation: Grinch'

SELMA - Three police departments are teaming up to stop the "Grinch" from stealing your Christmas.  Selma, Live Oak and Universal City Police are teaming up for "Operation: Grinch" for the second year.  Officers from the three departments will be working overtime to patrol major shopping centers on the Northeast Side, like the Forum.

Police say you should never leave your purchases or things like your cell phone out in your car, even if it's only for a few minutes.

"They think, 'well I've locked my car, that's the difference' and that's not the difference. They'll bust a window, they'll pry a lock in a heartbeat. They can be in and out in 30 seconds," said Live Oak Police Chief Ken Evans, about thieves.

Police officers will be in marked and unmarked cars and on bicycles to watch out for criminals.  Last year, only five car burglaries were reported at the Forum during the month-long initiative.
