VIDEO: Reagan beats Churchill, moves on to state tournament
SAN ANTONIO —
Reagan High School has graduation on Monday. But as big as that is, the baseball team has something they might say is bigger – practice for the upcoming state tournament.
Reagan beat Churchill and is now moving on to the state tournament. The district rivals met for the regional final Friday night. It was an elimination game for the Churchill Chargers and the Reagan Rattlers jumped on top early. Josh Killeen got the shot to drop in just deep enough to give Porter Brown time to score. Reagan scored 4 runs in the 3rd to go up 4 to nothing.
The Chargers will wonder about one call for months no doubt. Grant Gomez tried to steal 2nd, and the throw to 2nd is - out? The ump said so. You be the judge. Gomez or the tag. What happened first? Either way, the call stands.
Churchill would make it close. Jesse Herrera sent it right up the middle. Jordan Billups scores to make it 5-4. But that's as close as Churchill got. Josh Killeen made the final out and the dog pile began.
Reagan is headed back to state for the second time in 4 years. The state tournament is next week in Round Rock.
