According to a report from LA Times' Brad Turner, the Clippers are interested in upcoming free agent Jonathon Simmons.

Considering this weekend will kick off NBA free agency, Simmons will be receiving plenty of attention so expect reports to be flying off the shelf about his next destination.

Add the fact the Clippers are likely just doing their due diligence in the offseason, and will gauge Simmons' interest in playing in L.A.

Last season with the San Antonio Spurs, he appeared in 78 games and logged eight starts, averaging 6.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 17.9 minutes. He shot .420 from the field and .750 from the free throw stripe. He also scored in double figures in 16 games and led the team in steals 10 times and in blocks four times.

In the playoffs, Simmons upped his game when the team was hit with the injury bug. Appeared in 15 games with four starts, averaging 10.5 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 20.4 minutes. He shot .456 from the field, .351 from beyond the arc.

It should be noted Simmons is a restricted free agent meaning the Spurs can match any offer made from another team looking to add his talents to their roster. Also, it has been reported the Spurs did offer him a qualifying extension recently.
