To all Durant haters, KD gets last laugh with NBA title
I don't get it at all. All this hate for Kevin Durant.
Just minutes after the Warriors won the title, there was a Nike ad showing all the haters over the past year, ripping KD for joining the Warriors. The message? KD got the last laugh.
But I have a problem with the premise. This whole concept of super team. How many teams that win multiple titles are NOT a super team.
Magic, Kareem and James Worthy were all three the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft. What's the standard? Two Hall of Famers? Three?
Weren't Bird, Parrish and McHale a super team? How about Kobe and Shaq?
When Duncan won his first, he had David Robinson next to him. The next three, Manu and Tony? And the last one, the MVP was Kawhi Leonard. Who's now arguably a top 3 player in the entire league.
Saying KD sold out is the easy argument, especially for those cheering for LeBron James, but didn't LeBron start this idea of stacking a squad.
When he joined Wade and Bosh, they won two titles until the Spurs figured out how to beat them, and when they did, LeBron bolted. Now the feelgood story was that he went home to Cleveland. The truth is he went to another super team. Kyrie Irving was the No. 1 overall pick and they added Kevin Love. And remember, LeBron couldn't beat the Warriors when Kyrie was hurt in 2015. And when the Cavs won in 2016, it was Kyrie who made the biggest shot - that 3-pointer with under a minute to play.
The bottom line is that no superstar wins a title by himself, and it's not like Durant was just along for the ride. He was the NBA Finals MVP. He averaged 35 points a game.
He didn't join the Warriors to win a championship, he WON the championship for the Warriors.
