Churchill honors fallen teammate with long playoff run
SAN ANTONIO - It's a given that the Churchill community is proud of what it's baseball team has done to this point, but the respect level spans a lot further than that when you realize what this team has had to overcome emotionally with the loss of a teammate.
The football team honored Josh Pollard after he died in various ways, and then went on a long playoff run. And now, the baseball team is doing the same thing.
Josh Pollard played both sports, but passed away just before the start of the school year.
His Chargers are one of the most talented squads in the region with almost all of their players going on to play college baseball.
Most teams at this point of the season have pitching, but Churchill's got an over abundance for sure.
What separates these Chargers from most other teams is they can swing it with the best of them too.
The entire Churchill/McAllen series will take place in Laredo. The first game is at 7 p.m. Friday, and the rest will take place starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
