Family friendly fun at Cactus Land Brewing

ADKINS, Texas - This past weekend I got the privilege of going to Cactus Land Brewing Company and meeting the owners Dustin and Erica Teague. Dustin and Erica started home brewing about six years ago. Their first batch went horribly wrong. But their passion set their lives in motion which led them to creating their own award-winning brewing company.

“We are a destination brewery and we want people to plan to come out here, it allows us to really focus on our beer, not to push or to rush the beer but to focus on what we can do different with this beer, to keep thinking of new ideas,” said Erica.

Located out in Adkins, Texas, Cactus Land gives you a nice country setting for you to kick back and relax. There are big trees with lights to brighten up the Texas nights. Chairs around fire pits, tables and bars for everyone to sit back and relax and enjoy some good beer. It’s not just a place for adults, Cactus Land is a place for the family to have fun as well. With plenty of space for kids to run around with swings and slides for them to play on.

“It’s not just about brewing beer we also want to support local musicians and other family businesses like the food trucks,” explained Erica.

The Mr. Meximum food truck was on site where I got a steak burrito and steak nachos. Both were packed with flavors that blended so well together I couldn’t help but devour it all.

Cactus Land also does private events on their closed weekends. From class reunions to birthday parties and Christmas parties. They plan to eventually accommodate weddings once they get more infrastructure, such as a covered patio.

Dustin and Erica brew a great selection of craft beer right on location. From Stouts to IPA’s, each beer has a unique flavor and name. Lucas, Wilson County Hefeweizen, and Adkins Blonde are their three core beers that sell the most. Beers take two weeks to a year to brew.

Something I found amazing that Cactus land does. They brew their own Root Beer. Let me repeat that, they brew their own home brewed Root Beer and the kids love it.

“Number 9, that’s on tap right now. La Tuna El Brett was in a barrel for ten months,” said Dustin in an interview. They sell their beer in 4 oz, 8 oz, and 12 oz glasses and also have flights so you can try all the beers they have on tap for the weekend.

“We think people like to try diversity with their beer. It’s fun,” Erica said.

"For being a pretty big nano brewery, we're still one of the smallest in Texas," explained Dustin.

Dustin and Erica have regular jobs throughout the week, but every weekend they are at the brewery putting in work. It’s a passion for them and they love talking about their craft beer. That’s what makes going to Cactus Land so different than going to a bar.

“Educating people is a big step especially with the craft beer movement, we can get people to try something new, we can educate them on why we are doing this and why we are here,” Erica said.

Keep a watch out for beer festivals as well such San Antonio Beer Festival. Dustin and Erica love going to beer festivals to talk with people about different beers.

Dustin and Erica love talking to customers too. They listen to comments and the interest of their customers. They take it to heart. You can email them anytime by visiting their website. They also have a Facebook to keep everyone updated on upcoming events.

Cactus Land Brewing Co. ins't open every weekend, they only open the 1st and 3rd weekend of each month.

So, if you’re looking for something new, head to Cactus Land Brewing Co. and try an amazing selection of beers. The next weekend opening will be on Feb. 16th from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Feb. 17th from 12 p.m.-9 p.m.
