Who is paying big money to persuade you to vote "yes" on city bond?

A lot of money is being spent to persuade you to vote “yes”. The News 4 Trouble Shooters have the list of contributors backing the bond, which hasn't been made public yet.

On May 6, the city of San Antonio wants you to approve the biggest bond in city history. Borrowing $850 million to improve everything from streets and sidewalks to buildings and parks.

A lot of money is being spent to persuade you to vote “yes”. The News 4 Trouble Shooters have the list of contributors backing the bond, which hasn't been made public yet.

The list contains all contributors to One SA -- the political action committee set up to push the bond. The list is required to be filed Friday.

It shows that $680,755 has been contributed to the campaign. Much of it coming from developers, construction companies and engineering firms no doubt hoping to benefit from all the projects.

The biggest contributor trying to pass the bond is Centro Alliance San Antonio, which includes dozens of downtown businesses, hotels and restaurants. Centro Alliance has paid a total of $30,000.

Cavender Brothers Management, which is trying to develop its former Cadillac dealership on Broadway contributed $15,000. Its partner on the development, Hixon Properties gave another $15,000.

Former Rackspace CEO and developer Graham Weston has given $25,000.

The money is going to pay for TV ads, direct mail and campaign signs.

Big employers like USAA ($15,000), Valero ($20,000), HEB ($10,000) and Zachry ($15,000), also contributed. The companies are buying into the city's sales pitch: San Antonio needs a big upgrade in infrastructure to keep pace with rapid growth.

The One SA campaign sent us the following statement:

“The San Antonio community has really rallied behind the six 2017 City bond propositions. We have seen a record number of contributions of money and volunteer hours. I think most citizens understand that this is a needed historic infrastructure invest in the future of our city, and it can be accomplished without raising taxes.” - Christian Archer
