Criminals are posing as representatives of several organizations, including government agencies and various prize-awarding companies, in an attempt to scam victims, police said.

The criminals are on the hunt for personal information, including:

• Date of birth

• Social Security number

• Bank account number

Police advise being wary of someone asking the victim to make any type of financial transaction advance.

They said that should be an immediate red flag. If it feels wrong, hang up. Police also advise looking out for older residents because they are more vulnerable in such situations.
