Claim of child sexual assault in Somerset ISD school bathroom
San Antonio —
A San Antonio mother claims her seven-year-old son was kissed and groped in a Somerset ISD school bathroom by another student during an after-school program.
"This little boy picks my son up, kissed my son, and when my son said, 'what are you doing?' He told him to be quiet, and then proceeded to turn my son around and rub his genitals," she said.
"It just makes me hurt because as a parent, you know, I do everything to protect my son just to keep him, to keep him innocent, to keep him a child."
The mother, who didn't want to be identified, says her son came home from Barrera Veterans Elementary School earlier this week and told her about the alleged sexual assault.
"I mean he literally just shut down. He was scared to look me in the eye. He almost looked like he was ashamed of himself."
The mother doesn't blame the other child for his actions, or the school, but she is upset that she wasn't notified.
"How could you not think that, 'Hey, maybe I should maybe pick up the phone and call the Mom?'"
"This happened after hours, after school hours, and so when the investigation is ongoing, this is after 6, 6:30pm," said Maury Vasquez, Somerset ISD public information officer. He did say the other student's parent was notified, but didn't know why the other parent was not.
The mother of the alleged victim filed a police report the next day, and Child Protective Services was notified.
The school did accommodate her request for her son's transfer to another school. He starts tomorrow.
