Woman in labor, unborn babies among the dead in South Carolina wreck

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that happened around 11 p.m. Friday night on Rogers Road near Young Farm Street in Darlington County.

Five people are dead, including two unborn babies, according to Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee.

According to reports given to Hardee, one of the people in the car was in labor and being driven to the hospital.

The names of the victims are as follows:

  • Leonard Rouse, 52, of Darlington
  • Nakisha Rouse, 14, of Darlington
  • Chikari Douglas-Rouse, 28, of Hartsville
  • Baby Boy Douglas-Graham
  • and the unborn child of Chikari Douglas-Rouse

One person is in critical condition and two children were airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Hardee said.

There were 11 people in the car. This is the deadliest single-vehicle crash in Darlington County in more than 20 years, according to Hardee.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. The driver died at the scene.

Two passengers, also not wearing seat belts, were ejected from the car and taken to McLeod Hospital where they died from their injuries, according to Lance Cpl. Judd Jones.

Officials with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office say they're assisting with the collision.

The Darlington County Coroner's Office and the SCHP M.A.I.T are investigating.
