3 Texas jails to evacuate 4,500 inmates
SAN ANTONIO (SInclair Broadcast Group) - The Texas Department of Criminal Justice plans to evacuate 4,500 inmates from "Ramsey, Terrell, and Stringfellow Units in Rosharon."
The Brazos River water levels are rising due to increased rainfall. Those water levels now threatening the inmates within that area.
"The offenders are being transported by TDCJ buses, and are accompanied by correctional officers and other staff members who have reported to work to assist in the evacuation. Offenders assigned to the units will be sent to facilities in East Texas," the statement said.
Inmates will not be allowed to take visits during this time. However, they will be permitted to use the offender telephone system
"Offender families may contact TDCJ's 24-hour hotline at (936) 437-4927 or 1-844-476-1289 to obtain information about an inmate, according to the release."
