Police officer delivers surprise to bullied child
SAN ANTONIO - A Missouri police officer on a mission to end bullying gave one San Antonio family a big surprise.
Officer Sean Wade came all the way from the Kinloch Police Department in Missouri to meet 7-year-old Drevan Jones and his family.
With the help of the San Antonio Police Department and Ashley Furniture to deliver the brand new beds to the Joneses.
The gift means a lot because the Joneses are still trying to help Drevan recover from being bullied at his former school.
“He was hospitalized several times,” said his mom Amy Jones. “He would cry very night he didn't want to go to school.”
It was so bad, his mom says Drevan tried to end his life when he was only 6.
“He said he couldn't take it anymore,” she said.
Jones connected with Wade on Facebook.
He founded Team Bully Response Squad to help families like the Joneses.
“The goal is look at the situation that they're in and build the families back up,” he said. “A lot of times people just need a helping hand.”
Wade along with SAPD, the San Antonio Fire Department, and the Isaac Foundation for Suicide Prevention will be putting on a free anti-bullying event on Saturday, October 29 at the West Side Family YMCA.
It will be from 11 am to 3 pm.
Anyone who has questions or a problem with bullying is welcome to attend.
