Overnight WilCo shooting believed to be murder-suicide
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says initial reports indicated that the shooting early Wednesday morning that ended in the deaths of two people is a murder-suicide incident.
It happened around 12:30 a.m. in the 5400 block of County Road 424.
The Sheriff’s Office says upon arrival, deputies found a female with a single gunshot wound and a male with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The victims were identified as 48-year-old Richard Lee DeHart and 42-year-old Ellen DeHart.
Investigators believe Richard DeHart had the self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A neighbor who asked to remain anonymous tells CBS Austin she never saw or heard any disputes at the home where this took place, and there were never any signs that something like this could happen.
"Never would have thought it," she said. "I don't think I've processed it yet. They were really sweet, nice people, very inviting, wonderful family. It hasn't sunk in yet."
Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody says there were other people inside of the house at the time of the shooting but it does not appear that anyone else was hurt.
"We can tell you there were some young children in the house. We don't believe they witnessed it. We just don't know where everybody was at inside the residence, somewhat of a large residence inside. We're just trying to ascertain what happened at this point," said Sheriff Chody.
Chody says there were a lot of family members visiting from out of town for the holidays.
The neighbor says she's left thinking about those family members. "My heart's breaking for them. It's sad."
No suspects are at-large and there is no danger to the public.
