The first of its kind, a multi-million-dollar land bridge is coming to San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO —
It will be the first of its kind in the United States, a unique bridge called a “Land Bridge.” This bridge is being placed across Wurzbach Parkway connecting the east and west sides of the Phil Hardberger Park.
The people of San Antonio voted on the 2017 Bond, approving $13 million of it to go towards the park. Another $10 million was to be raised by the private sector.
Today, $3 million was donated by Phil and Linda Hardberger, The Bill Klesse Foundation and the Voelcker Trust.
“I consider it a part of my love for San Antonio and being able to express it in more than words,” said Phil Hardberger.
The money raised will be used for construction of the land bridge.
“You’re not going to see any of the steel or concrete,” said Phil. “What you’re going to see is shrubs and trees and flowers. It will look like a part of the natural terrain.”
Of the $10 million raised by the private sector, $7 million has already been donated. Phil said he expects to have the rest by the end of the year.
