Swim school parts ways with all employees working the night of deadly accident
SAN ANTONIO —
The Love to Swim School near Stone Oak Parkway and Evans Road says all employees working the night of a deadly accident last month have either resigned or placed on "indefinite leave of absence."
The swim school released a statement on Monday saying:
Love to Swim Schools has discontinued its Date Night program, effective immediately. In addition, all employees who were working the night of the accident have resigned from their position or have been placed on an indefinite leave of absence. We have no other comments at this time.
According to police, 3-year-old Mitchell Chang was dropped off by a couple at Love to Swim School near Stone Oak Parkway and Evans Road on Feb. 11 as part of the school's date night program.
At some point during the evening, Chang was found unresponsive by an adult who pulled him out of the water and began CPR until paramedics arrived. The child later died at North Central Baptist Hospital.
"The Love to Swim School ownership, staff and families are devastated by the accident that occurred during Date Night Open Swim at our Stone Oak facility on Saturday evening, February 10, 2018. All our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Our hearts are heavy with grief. We will use all information gathered by the San Antonio Police Department, and our internal review, to make sure nothing like this can ever happen again. Teaching children to be safer in the water is the reason we exist and our ongoing mission. We will issue a further statement as our investigation yields," the owners said in a statement.
