Suspicious package with political message found at La Cantera

“There was some concern that the box the sign was leaning against might have been some kind of device,” said San Antonio Police Chief William McManus. (SBG Photo)

A suspicious package forced the closure of a few stores at The Shops at La Cantera Thursday afternoon just before 3pm.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus later revealed that it was a box with a political message.

“It was a box with a sign on it that said, basically, ‘If the government doesn’t stop dropping bombs, we’re going to stop the government,” explained Chief McManus. “There was some concern that the box the sign was leaning against might have been some kind of device.”

The bomb squad was called out, determined the box was no threat and removed it from the area. All the shops reopened shortly thereafter.

The FBI is assisting the police in reviewing surveillance video to see if they can determine who left the package.
