Suspect in church shooting involved in alleged sexual assault in 2013
NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- Officials in Comal County say the suspect in the Sutherland Springs church shooting was involved in an alleged sexual assault four years ago.
The Comal County Sheriff's Office stated their office began to research Devin Kelley's background after hearing about Sunday's deadly shooting. A post on their Facebook page states that during their search, they discovered Kelley "was discovered to have been involved in an alleged Sexual Assault that occurred in Comal County in 2013."
The post states the investigation of the alleged sexual assault "stalled" in October of 2013 "for reasons yet to be determined." They said there was also a call for a "disturbance" in February of 2014 at the Kelley's home. No offense report was completed.
The Comal County Sheriff's Office said they would provide no additional information on the calls until a final determination on the release of the full reports is received by the District Attorney's Office.
Until a final determination is received by the District Attorney’s Office on the release of full reports regarding these calls, the Comal County Sheriff’s Office will have no additional information to provide.
