St. Stephen Catholic Church closing in August
SAN ANTONIO- St. Stephen Catholic Church, located along South Zarzamora on the city's West Side, will close its doors after 60 years.
On Wednesday, the decision was told to parishioners in a private meeting held at the church.
Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller says discussions about a closure began three-and-a-half years ago.
He says the reasons for the closure includes a low number of registered parishioners, structural and maintenance concerns and the fact that neighboring parishes can accommodate parishioners from St. Stephen.
A final service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 6th.
