San Antonio woman arrested for 1975 murder of Georgia teen
SAN ANTONIO -- After more than 40 years, police in Georgia crack a cold case by arresting the suspect in San Antonio.
On Wednesday morning, San Antonio Police arrested Mary Jane Stewart, 59, at an apartment complex on Midcrown Drive.
Stewart was wanted for the murder of 16-year-old Cheryl White, who was found stabbed to death in Warner Robins, Georgia, according to the Warner Robins Police Department. The murder happened in the early morning hours of November 12, 1975. Stewart was 18 years old and knew the victim.
People who live in the same apartment complex as Stewart said they had no idea she was wanted for murder. They said she was a heavy drinker and would always walk her dog around the complex.
Stewart is awaiting extradition back to Georgia.
