Police arrest man for sexual assaulting a 14-year-old girl outside movie theater
SAN ANTONIO - Authorities arrested a man Wednesday morning who was wanted for allegedly sexual assaulting a child in 2015.
Franky Rene Esparza, 26, is accused of sexual assaulting a 14-year-old girl while she was waiting for her parents at the movie theater according to an arrest affidavit. Authorities said the girl was waiting in the theater lobby because she didn't want to join her parents who were watching a movie.
Police said he engaged with "small talk" with her, but she walked away from him and ended up in an apartment complex behind the movie theater. Esparza followed her to the bench and touched her private areas, according to the affidavit. When she tried to run away, he followed her, pulled her shorts down and sexually assaulted her, police said.
DNA from the victim's rape kit matched Esparza, leading officials to issuing a warrant for his arrest. Esparza was indicted in Oct. 2017 and arrested early Wednesday.
Esparza faces a charge for sexual assault of a child.
