Two people killed in fiery crash on I-10 near Luling

A major collision early Saturday morning killed two people and caused a portion of I-10 to be shut down in Caldwell County.

In a post shared on Twitter and Facebook before 4:30 a.m., the Caldwell County Office of Emergency Management said Interstate 10 westbound at mile marker 630 was shut down. This is after a collision involving four 18-wheelers and one vehicle was reported at 2:45 a.m. Motorists were being detoured at US 183/HWY90.

A Facebook post indicated at least one of the vehicles caught fire due to the collision.

Authorities opened the roadway close to 11:15 p.m. Saturday night.

An official with the Caldwell County Office of Emergency Management said the two bodies were recovered at the scene of the crash. A third person was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

It was not immediately clear what may have caused the collision.
