Massive damage in Rockport, Fulton cities along Gulf Coast
SAN ANTONIO - Storm chasers driving through the hard-hit areas of Rockport-Fulton areas, just north of Corpus Christi, shared photos and videos of massive devastation early Saturday morning.
Rockport Mayor CJ Wax said teams of first responders were assessing the damage.
Wax could not confirm whether there were any fatalities due to Hurricane Harvey, but he said several businesses and homes were destroyed or damaged, including the Fulton Fire Station and Rockport High School.
Communication in the area was described as spotty since the storm knocked out power out to several areas and Wax said it could be a week before people are allowed back into their homes, adding, "Stay where you are, don't try to come back."
"We have taken a devastating blow from a Category 4 hurricane. The city is hurting right now," he said.
