New at the Zoo: Young hippo now has an official name
SAN ANTONIO -- There's someone new at the San Antonio Zoo and now he's got an official name.
An anonymous donor won the rights to name the two-year-old hippo at this year’s Zoobilation Ball. The donor selected the name "Timothy," the name of a dear friend who has done tremendous things for the San Antonio Zoo.
“We are thankful for donors who help us to secure a future for wildlife,” said CEO Tim Morrow. “As a non-profit organization, we couldn’t make major improvements without outside support.”
Timothy, a 1,200-pound juvenile hippo, arrived at the zoo in September from ABQ BioPark Zoo in New Mexico. He who joined his grandmother, Uma, in the Africa Live! exhibit a few months ago, has been a hit with guests.
He loves to explore his surroundings and loves his grandma.
