Local health career students take part in mass casualty exercise

SAN ANTONIO - Preparing for the worst was the objective of the San Antonio Mass Casualty Exercise and Evaluation on Tuesday.

More than 500 students from local nursing schools and health career high schools were transformed into wounded patients.

The exercise is a way for the Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council to test the coordination and logistics needed to streamline resources from most of the city's hospitals and EMS patients to effectively respond to a major disaster.

Results from the exercise will be used to determine areas that may need more training to improve current emergency response plans.
