Local blood bank in urgent need of donations
SAN ANTONIO —
The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center needs your help in restocking its blood supply.
Snowstorms in the northeastern part of the country has led to the local blood centers unable to collect donations due to the extreme weather. STBTC is asking the community to step up and help those both locally and out-of-state. Having an adequate blood supply can mean the difference between life and death for car accident victims, cancer patients and many other patients.
“Our communities have proven time and time again that we are about resiliency and helping our neighbors, so I’m confident that our communities will answer the call for help and show the nurturing and caring spirit of South Texas,” said Waltman. “I want to encourage every eligible donor to call in or go online and schedule a donation. Every donation can help save up to three lives, at a time when our hospitals and patients are relying on us.”
If you'd like to donate, you can schedule a donation at a donor room near you by calling 210-731-5590 or visiting SouthTexasBlood.org. Donors must bring identification. Donors that are 16 years old must weigh at least 110 pounds and 120 pounds if you're 17 years old. All donors must be in good general health.
