UPDATE: Police identify suspect in officer-involved shooting
UPDATE at 2:15 p.m.: San Antonio Police Department have identified the suspect in this morning's officer-involved shooting as 37-year-old Jose Casares.
UPDATE at 8:30 a.m.: San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said an officer shot and killed a man during a domestic violence incident at a home on the city's West Side on Monday morning.
McManus said officers were called to the home located near Plaza del Sol and Merida shortly after 7 a.m. amid reports the suspect was threatening to shoot a 15-year-old girl inside a house.
The first two officers who arrived at the scene apparently walked into the home, but backed out when they saw the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Jose Casares, had a gun and ignored calls to drop the weapon.
The officers took cover around the side of the house as Casares followed them out of the house. He was shot when a third officer arrived at the scene and saw Casares raise his weapon, according to the chief. Casares was pronounced dead after crews tried to take him to a hospital.
Three children inside the house, including the 15-year-old, a 12-year-old and a 10-year-old were not hurt. Their mother was also not hurt.
McManus said police were previously at the same house about a month ago when Casares was arrested on a family violence charge.
Neighbors also reported he caused problems in the area.
The officer who shot and killed Casares will be placed on administrative duty while the incident is investigated.
