Fellow officers testify in trial of man accused of killing San Antonio Police officer
JOURDANTON, Texas —
Testimony continued in the in the trial of a man accused of killing a San Antonio Police Department officer.
Shaun Ruiz Puente is accused of leading police on a high-speed chase from the southern part of San Antonio into Wilson County on December 7, 2013. Investigators say Puente and his female passenger Jenevieve Ramos were suspects in several robberies.
Officer Robert "Bobby" Deckard was the lead officer in the pursuit of Puente and Ramos. Tuesday, the jury heard testimony of Deckard's fellow officers, who were also a part of the pursuit.
The officers testified that during the high-speed chase, several shots were fired at Deckard from the suspect's car. Investigators say one bullet went through the windshield of Deckard's patrol car and hit him in the head. He died 13 days later.
Puente has pleaded not guilty. We’re told prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
