Dog owner sentenced after deadly mauling of elderly woman
SAN ANTONIO -- The owner of a dog that mauled an elderly woman to death on the West Side has been sentenced to five years in prison.The owner, 34-year-old Perla Rojas-Ibarra, pleaded guilty to criminal charges in connection with the deadly attack. The victim, 83-year-old Petra Aguirre, was in her yard feeding her cats back on March 31st, when Rojas-Ibarra's dog crawled under a fence and attacked her. Aguirre died a few days later.In court Thursday, Rojas-Ibarra asked the Aguirre family for forgiveness. She was facing a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
