City leaders open San Antonio's first 'wildland' fire station on Far South Side
SAN ANTONIO - The city's first ever 'wildland fire station' opened its doors on Monday morning; Station 53 is located on the Far South Side, near Southton Road and I-37.
All the firefighters that serve the area are wildland-certified and the station houses several brush trucks. Those resources will allow the crew to handle all types of calls, including brush fires that may affect a large area.
Station 53 will give fire protection for the newly-annexed areas and existing neighborhoods in the area.
