Lower level of Interstate 10 reopened after big rig crash forces closure
The Texas Department of Transportation worked to remove a mangled Transguide sign that was damaged when it was hit by an 18-wheeler on the lower level of I-10 near Downtown.
The accident happened at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the eastbound lanes of I-10 near Cincinnati Avenue.
Investigators say the driver of an 18-wheeler slammed into the sign when the load began to rise. They did not clarify whether the accident was caused by operator error or a technical malfunction.
TxDoT said it would start clearing the debris by attaching straps to the sign to lift it and drive the truck out from under it. Then a second process would begin to dismantle and remove the damaged sign. The lower level of the highway was closed while crews worked; the upper level remained open.
Officers said no one was hurt in the mishap, which remained under investigation.
The highway was reopened by 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
