Miraculous recovery for teen injured in accident after parents sign organ donation papers
MOBILE COUNTY, Alabama - A 13-year-old boy is speaking out about his miraculous recovery after spending days on life support and his parents signed paperwork to donate his organs to other children.
Trenton McKinley told Mobile media outlet WALA that he was at a friend's house about two months ago when the dune buggy trailer he was riding in flipped over. He hit the concrete and the trailer landed on his head.
"He was dead a total of 15 minutes," said mom Jennifer Reindl. "When he came back they said he would never be normal again. They told me the oxidation problems would be so bad to his brain that he would be a vegetable even if he made it.
Trenton's parents were told his organs matched five children in need and they made the difficult decision to pull their son off life support.
But after signing the paperwork, something happened.
Trenton began to show signs of improvement.
He is now back at home and on the long road to recovery. Trenton says there is only one explanation for his remarkable journey.
"There's no other explanation but God, there's no other way. Even doctors said it."
