San Antonio burger legend remembered

Updated: Monday, October 21 2013, 07:02 AM CDT

SAN ANTONIO - There's something about a burger. And when they are extra good, there's also something about the person who makes them.

That was clear at "Joe's Hamburgers" on Blanco Sunday. People gathered to remember the late owner, Phyllis June Danie, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 80.

Phyllis had run the popular burger joint since the 70's and became a legend in some eyes.

“This place, it is just one of the icons of San Antonio, and I think we are surely going to miss this and don't ever want to see the place gone completely,” explained one mourner.

Sunday's gathering was more than a goodbye to Phyllis, but possibly Joe's Hamburgers as well. The family is uncertain about the restaurant's future.
